To access the Aziz Supercomputer remotely and occasionally while on the KAU campus, you may need to use the Virtual Private Network (VPN). The CEHPC will request a KAU VPN account on your behalf from the KAU network team to facilitate your access. In this section, we will guide you on how to download and install Cisco AnyConnect for both Windows and Linux systems.
Download and install Cisco Anyconnect for Windows:
Please follow the steps below to download the Cisco AnyConnect client and log in to the KAU VPN: use a web browser and click on web-link to download Cisco AnyConnect.
Use your KAU ID (7-digit number) and Password to logon and in Group: select from drop down menu King_Abdulaziz_University_VPN as shown in figure below.
Once logged in, Click Download to save the installation package.
Locate and open the downloaded install package.
Click Next on the “Welcome to the Cisco Secure Client Wizard” screen.
Agree to the Software License Agreement and click Next.
Click Install to begin installation.
You must have elevated privileges to install Cisco Secure Client. When prompted, choose Yes to proceed with installation.
You have successfully installed the Cisco Secure Client and can begin using it. Click Finish to exit the Setup Wizard.
Launch the Cisco Secure Client from the Start Menu.
Once downloaded cisco AnyConnect successfully, open Cisco AnyConnect and enter the KAU VPN address below, then press "Connect"
vpn.kau.edu.sa or
IP address: 212.26.114.4
Open AnyConnect client. From the dropdown menu, select "King Abdulaziz University VPN" and enter your KAU-provided login credentials (Example: KAU ID:001111 Password: XXXXXXX).
Once connected, the status will display "Connected.
Download and install Cisco secure client for Linux:
Please follow the steps below to download the Cisco AnyConnect client and log in to the KAU VPN: use a web browser to visit the web-link below to download Cisco AnyConnect.
Use your KAU ID and Password to logon and in Group: select from drop down menu King_Abdulaziz_University_VPN as shown in figure below.
Once logged in, Click Download to save the installation package.
Locate downloaded package.
To run the cisco secure client, install script, open a Linux Terminal by pressing Ctrl+Alt+T on your keyboard.
Type 'sudo bash Downloads/cisco-secure-client-linux64-5.0-core-vpn-webdeploy-k9.sh’. This will begin the installation process.
To open cisco secure client type' gtk-launch com.cisco.secureclient.gui'
KAU VPN address below, then press "Connect":
Test Connectivity:
Test the connectivity to ensure you can access the Aziz supercomputer, please note this test works for both windows and Linux systems.
Open command prompt and ping 10.113.16.6 or 10.113.16.7
KAU VPN account Renewal Policy:
The KAU VPN account is renewable every six months, in accordance with the policies of the General Administration of Information Technology and the Cyber Security Department of KAU.
Important Notes:
- Expiration: If your KAU VPN account expires, you will be unable to log in.
- Renewal Process:
- Open a Ticket: To extend your KAU VPN access, please submit a ticket through the ticketing system.
- Please provide the below information in your ticket.
- Full Name:
- KAU ID:
- Designation:
- Department:
- Official University Email:
- Mobile Number:
- HPC Team Assistance: The HPC team will process your request and apply for your KAU VPN extension.
Common issues for KAU VPN login failure:
Once your KAU VPN account is expired your logon will fail as shown in below figure.
The KAU VPN has not been properly configured by GAIT. While the user is connected to the KAU VPN, they are unable to access AZIZ.
